User-Centered Storytelling (a workshop)

Challenge— As part of its internal training program, a major CPG company sought to develop its employees’ storytelling skills. I developed this workshop to teach participants the basics of user-centered storytelling and how it could be incorporated into their daily work.

Process— The workshop builds on Joseph Campbell’s research on mythology and a similar week-long course that a senior director at the company teaches. I also interviewed people with varying degrees of exposure to storytelling, to get a better understanding of how we could make the course most relevant and valuable for the company’s employees.

Insights— Redacted due to NDA

Solution— The four-hour workshop was initially piloted with two project teams and is now ready for anyone to run “out of the box,” using the workbooks, worksheets, annotated slide deck, and take-away cards that I created.
